

Anxiety sucks. Depression sucks.
Believe it or not, Anxiety and depression are protective strategies your unconscious mind learned a long time ago and hasn't yet unlearned. It's your nervous systems way of trying to keep you safe. At some point, your unconscious decided that hypervigilance or withdrawal increased survival and protected you emotionally. And once that emotional learning was encoded, it became automatic.
The problem is that your nervous system does not automatically unlearn old survival strategies just because your circumstances change. that's why you cannot think your way out of emotional learning. You cannot reason with your anxiety and you cant just "cheer up" when depressed. You can logically know that you’re safe. You can intellectually understand that you’re capable. And yet you still still feel anxious, heavy or shut down.
